Niamh Beatrix
Johannesburg, South Africa – 1 November 2023: This Christmas, there’ll be a special song for South Africans around the globe. Young South African expat Niamh Beatrix, who recently competed as a finalist in the Junior Eurovision contest in Ireland, has released her first original Afrikaans single, Kersfees in die Vreemde (Christmas in the Unknown).
Although Niamh has a deep love for Ireland, she hasn’t forgotten her South African roots. Kersfees in die Vreemde, has been released in aid of Reach For A Dream, a leading non-profit that makes dreams come true for children with life-threatening illnesses.
“Niamh’s Christmas song fuses Celtic and South African sounds in a unique way and is a first of its kind,” says the producer of Kersfees in die Vreemde, Riaan Steyn from Traxtudio, Cape Town.
The song, which was composed by the artist herself, features the South African Youth Choir and depicts how Christmas is different and yet the same for people around the world.
“It’s about how Christmas, like music, brings people together – regardless of culture, country or language,” explains Niamh. “I chose Reach For A Dream because the charity makes a memorable difference in the lives of children with life-threatening illnesses – children who very often have to spend Christmas in the ‘unknown’.”
The song and fundraiser are also inspired by a very special 10-year-old girl, Carla Van Eeden, from Cape Town, who has been battling cancer for over a year. “Carla is the bravest and kindest kid I know, and she deserves to be named over and over again,” she says.

According to Natalie Lazaris, Business Head at Reach For A Dream, Niamh is the epitome of hope, and her strength and courage to realise her dreams a reality is inspiring. “We are grateful that Niamh chose to support Reach For Dream through her music, as it will help those fighting their greatest battles to realise their dreams. We are fully behind Niamh and are looking forward to supporting her through this incredible journey.”
Earlier this year, Niamh released two covers in aid of Make-a-Wish Ireland. Since its release, her music has been streamed over 50,000 times and to add further momentum to her fundraising efforts in Ireland, she has been working on an English Christmas song, Christmas All Year as well. Written and composed in collaboration with Niamh Noade, a 14-year old singer from Northern Ireland, also known as The Girl with the Harp, Christmas All Year will be released on all major platforms shortly after Kersfees in die Vreemde.
So, will Niamh and her family be spending this Christmas abroad? “No, we’re coming home for a summer Christmas for the first time in 5 years!” says Niamh excitedly.
South Africans can stream her Christmas single, Kersfees in die Vreemde, in aid of Reach For Dream from all major platforms, from 31 October.
