South Africa Raises R10 Million for Children with Life-threatening Illnesses on Slipper Day 2025
  • 14 Aug 2025

This year’s Slipper Day saw South Africans unite under the call to “Do it for the Dreamers” and help make dreams come true for over 6 children facing life-threatening illnesses every day. Led by Reach For A Dream, the annual nationwide initiative once again inspired generosity, joy, and solidarity – with supporters raising an extraordinary R10 million to bring hope to children across the country.

For the 14th consecutive year, schools, corporates, and individuals participated by purchasing the iconic R20 Slipper Day sticker and proudly wearing their slippers, symbolising support for children who spend much of their treatment journey in hospital slippers. The campaign lit up social media as thousands of supporters shared photos and videos, showing dreamers that the nation stands with them in their fight for brighter days.

This year’s success would not have been possible without the unwavering support of Reach For A Dream’s valued retail partners. Wimpy, DisChem Pharmacies, DisChem Baby City, Pick n Pay, Toys R Us, Babies R Us, Krispy Kreme, Hush Puppies, and The Crazy Store rallied together, selling Slipper Day stickers in-store and engaging customers across the country. Zapper sold virtual stickers to supporters who preferred to show their support online. The Courier Guy played a crucial role in delivering stickers, slippers, and promotional material nationwide, ensuring every supporter had the opportunity to participate.

Hush Puppies brought an extra layer of excitement by sponsoring the Slipper Day School Competition. Saheti Schools took the top spot for selling the most stickers, winning R25 000 for their school. Fundamental Private School claimed the Social Media Challenge prize of R10 000, while Laerskool Verkenner received R7 500 for winning the Spirit of Slipper Day award.

“For the first time in the history of Slipper Day, we set an ambitious target of R10 million, and South Africa delivered,” says Julia Sotirianakos, CEO of Reach For A Dream. “When we come together for the dreamers, magic happens. Because of your generosity, we can continue fulfilling an average of six dreams every day, creating unforgettable moments that last a lifetime. Thank you to every school, corporate, individual, and retail partner for standing with us.”

The next Slipper Day will take place on 29 May 2026, once again calling on South Africans to slip on their slippers, wear their stickers, and help make dreams come true. This simple yet powerful act continues to provide moments of comfort and joy for children during their most challenging times, proving that when a nation comes together, dreams really do come true.
