Dream: To meet Patrick Lambie
Marlon has Aplastic Anaemia; a rare disease where the bone marrow stops making new blood cells and results in less oxygen being sent to organs, tissues and cells. Marlon travels four hours from his small Eastern Cape hometown of Middleburg to Port Elizabeth for his bi-weekly treatment at the Oncology unit. Marlon’s dream was to meet his hero Patrick Lambie and Reach for a Dream made this happen.
Marlon’s world opened up when he and his mom were whisked off to the big city of Durban to meet his hero and Marlon had one-on-one time with Patrick in the Shark Tank locker rooms where they got to talk all things rugby. In order to add more magic to this day, Reach for a Dream made sure the Sharks and SA Rugby awarded Marlon with rugby jerseys and hampers. Marlon was grinning from ear-to-ear. Marlon was also treated to a specially prepared breakfast in the Shark’s “Den”; a perfect way to end off an amazing day.
Upon arrival back in Port Elizabeth, Marlon expressed his deepest gratitude for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.
“We didn’t expect it to come true. He was so happy that he got what he wanted.”
