A New Dream Room Brings Hope and Joy to Young Patients in Gqeberha
  • 27 Feb 2025

Reach For A Dream is proud to announce the opening of a new Dream Room at Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital, a space designed to provide children facing life-threatening illnesses with a much-needed escape from the clinical environment of hospital care. Proudly sponsored by Truworths, this Dream Room is the latest in a series of dedicated spaces aimed at bringing joy, imagination, and comfort to young patients undergoing treatment.

A Safe Haven for Play and Imagination
Dream Rooms are built with the because every child deserves the opportunity to dream, play, and explore, even in the midst of medical treatment. Designed to offer a break from the sterile hospital setting, these vibrant spaces are equipped with an array of educational and recreational activities. From books and interactive games to virtual reality experiences, each Dream Room provides a sanctuary where children can rediscover the joys of childhood while receiving the care they need.

Encouraging Growth and Development
These vital spaces also provide structured developmental support. Staffed by trained interns specialising in early childhood development, these rooms offer activities designed to help young patients reach their Early Developmental Checkpoints (EDC). This personalised support ensures that children continue to grow, learn, and build resilience, even during extended hospital stays.

A Partnership Built on Hope
The launch of the Dream Room at Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital marks another milestone in the ongoing partnership between Reach For A Dream and Truworths. As a Platinum sponsor, Truworths has been instrumental in supporting the foundation’s vision of transforming paediatric hospital care. Since the first Dream Room was introduced at Queen Nandi Hospital in KwaZulu-Natal in 2020, the partnership has expanded to include Dream Rooms at Kimberley Hospital in the Northern Cape, Universitas Hospital in Bloemfontein, and Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto. With the addition of Port Elizabeth Provincial Hospital, this marks the fifth Dream Room made possible by Truworths’ support.

Building a Brighter Future
With 47 Dream Rooms now in operation across South Africa, Reach For A Dream remains committed to enhancing the hospital experience for young patients. These spaces serve as beacons of hope, proving that even in the most challenging circumstances, children can still find moments of joy, creativity, and inspiration.
