Dreams Matter: A Look Back at This Month’s Magical Moments
At Reach For A Dream, we believe in the power of dreams to bring light into the lives of children facing life-threatening illnesses. Each month, we make hundreds of dreams come true, creating unforgettable moments of joy, resilience, and hope. This new monthly feature gives you a closer look at the incredible journeys of children whose dreams were fulfilled. From first-time adventures to cherished gifts, these dreams remind us why every moment matters.
Emma’s First Ocean Adventure
Four-year-old Emma from Centurion is a bundle of light and laughter, despite living with histiocytosis. Her dream of experiencing the ocean came true in Port Elizabeth, where she embraced every moment with boundless energy and curiosity.
Her journey began with her very first flight—her face lit up as she pointed at the clouds and giggled through take-off. When she finally reached the beach, her excitement was contagious. She ran along the shoreline, squealing as the waves gently touched her feet, splashing with pure delight and collecting seashells with wide-eyed wonder.
Joined by her mum and sister, they built sandcastles, chased waves, and shared unforgettable moments filled with love and laughter. For Emma, the beach wasn’t just a place—it was a celebration of joy, resilience, and life’s little treasures.
Happy Dream Day, Emma!
Hadassa’s Dream of Staying Connected
Fifteen-year-old Hadassa is a vibrant young girl with a passion for baking, sports, and discovering cultural foods. Despite the challenges of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, which has made it difficult for her to attend school and enjoy her favourite activities, Hadassa’s resilience shines through.
Her dream? Owning a laptop to continue learning, watch her favourite shows, and express her creativity through drawing. This thoughtful gift will keep her connected to the world and the things she loves, even during tough times.
Hadassa’s special day began with pampering at Dis-Chem Pharmacy, where she and her family enjoyed makeup and manicures. The day’s highlight? A joyful “guard of honour” from the Dis-Chem Pharmacies staff, who celebrated her journey as she received her dream—a brand-new laptop. Her excitement and gratitude were a beautiful testament to the power of dreams and hope.
Lindo’s Dream of Possibility and Strength
Fifteen-year-old Lindo from Gqeberha had long dreamed of owning a phone. For her, it wasn’t just a device—it symbolised possibility and the incredible things she could achieve. Living with a rare blood disease hasn’t been easy, but Lindo’s strength and determination shine brightly, just like her dream.
Her special day began at Woolworths Walmer Park, where she was welcomed with warmth and excitement. In a beautifully decorated private space, expert beauty specialists pampered Lindo, leaving her feeling relaxed and glowing.
The highlight of the day came when she was presented with her dream—a brand-new phone. Lindo’s face lit up with joy as she held it for the first time, realising a dream she had waited so long to achieve.
Each of these dreams represents more than just an experience or a gift; they embody hope, resilience, and the magic of possibility. Dreams Matter—and each month, we’ll continue sharing these inspiring stories with you. Thank you for being part of this journey of bringing light and joy to children across South Africa.
