Dreams have the power to bring even the furthest people close. Eight-year-old Wyatt from East London is a bright and inquisitive boy. Passionate about the Springboks, Wyatt’s Hodgkins Lymphoma diagnosis cut his school rugby career short. He did not let that stop him and dreamed of meeting his personal hero, Siya Kolisi.
While in Johannesburg, 17-year-old Mine was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, also putting her budding sporting career on hold. She dreamed of spending time with the Springboks and meeting her favourite player, Pieter-Steph du Toit.
Together, their dreams came true at the Mbombela stadium where they met their heroes and stood bravely in front of the thousands of rugby fans gathered singing the national anthem at the top of their lungs.
Both dreamers are now cancer-free, a beautiful reminder of the power of holding on to see your dream coming true.
Princess for the day, Nobuhle’s Barbie dream experience

Three-year-old Nobuhle from Bloemfontein is living with Ganglioneuroblastoma. She struggles to walk but that does not stand in the way of her living her life boldly as a princess does.
For her dream day, she received the most special princess treatment. Singing and dancing along to all her favourite songs while dressed as the most adorable princess.
Her dream reveal brought joy to her bright eyes. Seeing her Barbie doll house, Nobuhle wasted no time exploring all her new doll home has to offer.
She posed for the camera and showed us how princesses do it.
Akhanyile, the world’s future veterinarian

10-year-old Akhantile from Cape Town is passionate about saving animals and caring for them. Living with a connective tissue disorder, he moves with resilience and wonder.
On his dream day, he embarked on an adventure to an animal hospital, where he stepped into the vet’s shoes and learned how to bring his passions to life. He learned about how animal surgeries are done, explored the bones and took an excited peek through a microscope.
It was time to save his sweet heart and reveal his dream. When he saw his brand-new tablet, his smile lit up the entire room, captivating everyone with him.
Akhanyile’s dream and the other heartwarming dreams we’ve made come true this month show us the joy that comes with dreaming.
Stay tuned for next month’s Dreams Matter feature where we look back at the dreams that have made us smile.
