September marks International Childhood Cancer Awareness month. This year, we’re tipping our hats to every child diagnosed with cancer.
Every treatment they sit through is a testament of their bravery, a commitment to being hopeful. Every child whose dream comes true gains strength, hope and courage to continue striving for a brighter tomorrow.
Reach For A Dream is honoured to have brought joy to some of these brave children during their toughest moments by making their dreams come true. Here’s a recap of their dream days, moments that they’ll cherish for a lifetime.
Alunamda receives his AmaKhosi celebration

Alunamda from East London is soccer club Kaizer Chiefs’ biggest fan. On his dream day, the eight-year-old was celebrated with black and gold balloons, a symbol of his passion for the team.
He lives with Leukemia and dreamed of owning a tablet to stay connected with his family and friends while he receives his treatment. Because of his illness, his special day happened in hospital.
Alunamda played a special game and when he won, he had his dream come true. His victory was unwrapping his dream tablet, putting a huge smile on his face.
Pure joy took over him and his shyness quickly became a thing of the past.
Lillian jumps to her dream come true

Bright, curious and always ready to laugh is three-year-old Lillian. The young girl from Kameeldrift bravely lives with Osteogenis Imperfecta. Her contagious laugh is proof that dynamite comes in small packages.
At Play Containers, Lillian’s dream day was an afternoon of absolute fun. She jumped on the jumping castles, squealing with glee at every leap.
Her dream came true during lunch. Little Lillian and her family settled around the table and the happy dreamer unwrapped the box in front of her, revealing her dream Bubblegum tablet.
Lillian’s new tablet will teach her the necessary skills in a fun and cool way she’ll enjoy.
Hier kom Mandre se droom

Delayed flights, car hires and long airport waits were all forgotten when Mandre watched the Springboks play live at DHL Stadium in Cape Town.
The 15-year-old from Johannesburg lives with Sarcoma and absolutely a beautiful rugby game. Mandre’s biggest dream was to watch the Springboks play, an activity he could cherish for the rest of his life.
After a few hoops and jumps, Mandre and his family landed in Cape Town to experience the thrill of watching the Boks live in action. The match was more than just a game, it was the moment Mandre’s longtime dream came to life.
This Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Reach For A Dream commends the bravery of all our dreamers living with cancer. Taking on every day with renewed courage and receiving treatment with a hopeful spirit, they show us what it means to be brave.
Dreams fulfilled show these children that they are more than a diagnosis, they remind them that their Dreams Matter.
